Jack White Slams Reality Television

Jack White has hit out at reality TV shows. The former White Stripes frontman has criticized people who appear on talent shows insisting they are only interested in instant fame and he claims the format dilutes the work of credible artists.
In an interview with the new issue of Britain's Esquire magazine, he said, "The goal of modern celebrity is to make yourself into the lowest common denominator, 'Hey, I'm a guy just like you. I like beer, a football game.' Especially in reality television, you'll see what people will go so far as to make a fool out of themselves just to prove that."
The 37-year-old musician went on to criticize Oscar-winning director Clint Eastwood, 82, who recently appeared on E! fly-on-the-wall series, Mrs. Eastwood & Company with his wife Dina: "I don't want to see a reality show about Michelangelo. You know, Clint Eastwood is doing one with his family and it's such a disappointment. There's no reason to put yourself in a position that makes things completely un-special."

Howard Stern will return to America's Got Talent.
The 58-year-old radio host impressed viewers with his performance on his first season of the show last year and NBC praised his "towering presence and opinions" when announcing his decision to sign up for a new series.
Paul Telegdy, president of NBC's alternative and late-night programming said, "Howard Stern's towering presence and opinions on last season's show as a new judge made a dramatic impact and added a sharper edge to the fascinating developments on stage."
Howard's fellow judge Howie Mandel is also set to return although Sharon Osbourne quit the panel earlier this year after claiming NBC fired her son Jack Osbourne via email from reality show Stars Earn Stripes following his diagnosis with multiple sclerosis (MS).

Ricky Martin has no plans to reveal his nasty side on The Voice Australia.
The "Livin' La Vida Loca" singer - who is set to finish his stint performing in Evita on Broadway on January 26 - has signed on to judge the second series of the show but the Grammy winner said he won't be the show's version of Simon Cowell.
The 40-year-old star told the Huffington Post, "I don't believe in tough love. I believe in love, and I believe in being nurturing to new talented men and women."
Ricky is heavily involved in the development of a new dramedy series tackling social issues with a sense of humor for NBC that he will produce, write and star in. The series is expected to hit screens next year.
"It's about growing. It's a moment in my life where I just need to absorb and be surrounded by amazing actors and musicians and grow as an entertainer. I think this is going to be an amazing year for that," he said.
Dolly Parton: “I Turned Down X Factor”
Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Music, Prime Time, Reality, FOX, NBC, American Idol, Gossip,
Dolly Parton has turned down American Idol and The X Factor. The legendary singer was approached to join both shows as a judge over the years but admitted the only TV talent search she would ever consider appearing on is The Voice because it is more nurturing to its contestants.
"I've been asked to do American Idol and The X Factor almost every time there's a new season. [On The Voice] you don't have to judge that much and I hesitate to judge people," she said.
Dolly previously revealed she will always be grateful to Whitney Houston for making her song "I Will Always Love You" famous and credits her friends and God with preventing her from going down the same road as the tragic singer, who drowned following an accidental overdose in a hotel bathtub in February: "I thank God every day for that song - and Whitney made it popular worldwide. It's a very simple song, really, as simple as anything I've ever written. I've always had good and close friends, and a spiritual faith. God will take the wrong people and things out, and teach me to have the right people and the right things. Some people don't have that, and that's where it can go wrong."

Angus T. Jones is "grateful for the extraordinary opportunity" to star in Two And A Half Men.
The 19-year-old actor - who recently filmed a video urging people not to watch the show because it goes against his religious beliefs - released a statement to apologise to the cast and crew if he offended them.
"I have been the subject of much discussion, speculation and commentary over the past 24 hours. While I cannot address everything that has been said or right every misstatement or misunderstanding, there is one thing I want to make clear. Without qualification, I am grateful to and have the highest regard and respect for all of the wonderful people on Two and Half Men with whom I have worked and over the past ten years who have become an extension of my family. Chuck Lorre, Peter Roth and many others at Warner Bros. and CBS are responsible for what has been one of the most significant experiences in my life to date. I thank them for the opportunity they have given and continue to give me and the help and guidance I have and expect to continue to receive from them.

Steven Tyler has hit back at Nicki Minaj for calling him a "racist."
The American Idol judge lashed out at the Aerosmith rocker - whom she replaced on the panel of the talent show - after he questioned her suitability and claimed she would've passed on legendary musician Bob Dylan if he auditioned, but Steven was shocked when Nicki took it as a racist insult. "It was a moment, I'm sorry if it was taken wrong. But I'm the furthest from a racist. I'm not sure how she got that from me saying 'I'm not sure she would have judged Bob Dylan.' I was just saying if Bob Dylan came on the show he would have been thrown off. Maybe I spoke out of turn but a racist I'm not," he said.

New NBC Period Drama for Julian Fellowes
Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Drama, Prime Time, NBC, Announcements, News,
Julian Fellowes is developing a period drama for NBC. The Downton Abbey creator's show The Gilded Age - which follows the rich and powerful inhabitants of New York in the 1880s - has been described by the channel as "an epic tale of the princes of the American Renaissance, and the vast fortunes they made - and spent."
Julian - who will write and produce The Gilded Age - told TVLine, "This was a vivid time with dizzying, brilliant ascents and calamitous falls, of record-breaking ostentation and savage rivalry; a time when money was king."
News of the show comes not long after rival channel ABC declined to pick up Grey's Anatomy creator Shonda Rhimes' similar drama pilot Gilded Lilys.
Julian will be kept busy as Downton Abbey was recently commissioned for a fourth season with Gareth Neame, Managing Director of Carnival Films, the show's makers crediting him for its success: "Not only is he a superb craftsman, he also has an extraordinary work ethic. It is a mammoth undertaking to write all those episodes.

Miley Cyrus was "shocked" by Two And A Half Men's Angus T. Jones' rant about the show. The 19-year-old actor - who makes $350,000 for playing Jake Harper in the sitcom - called the show "filth" and begged viewers to stop watching and guest star Miley was surprised by her on-screen love interest's comments.
"Miley was shocked just like everyone else who saw the video. But Miley doesn't judge anyone and she of course wants Angus and everyone who works on the show to be happy and continue doing the show because she's a huge fan and she likes guest appearing. She had the time of her life when she worked with Angus and she even thinks he's hot and incredibly sweet. She even had fun hanging on set and filming with Ashton [Kutcher] and Jon [Cryer]," a source said.
